Sport Codes

At the core of Corinthians’ mission is the belief that sports can be a powerful tool for positive change. They have established four distinct sporting codes, each with its unique role in transforming the lives of at-risk youth.

  1. Blind Soccer: Corinthians’ initiative to establish a blind soccer team is pioneering and exemplifies their commitment to inclusivity. It recognizes that everyone, regardless of their abilities, should have the opportunity to participate in sports and be part of a team. This initiative is a testament to Corinthians’ dedication to breaking barriers and changing perceptions of disabled sports in the community.
  2. Cricket: Through cricket, Corinthians provides the youth with a positive alternative to life on the streets. The sport not only helps them develop their athletic abilities but also instills valuable life skills such as teamwork, perseverance, and discipline.
  3. Netball: Corinthians recognizes the importance of empowering young women in the community. The netball team not only offers an outlet for their energy but also plays a crucial role in building self-esteem and a sense of purpose, while concurrently working to prevent teenage pregnancies.
  4. Soccer: Both young men and women benefit from Corinthians’ soccer programs. For young women, soccer serves as an outlet for energy, helping them build self-esteem and a sense of purpose. For young men, it’s a means to keep them away from crime and drug abuse, providing them with a positive alternative.

In their decade of existence, Corinthians has successfully worked with over 3,000 young people, making significant progress toward their objectives. Corinthians is a shining example of an organization committed to creating a brighter future for at-risk youth in LaRochelle and the broader South Johannesburg community. Through cricket, netball, soccer, and their pioneering blind soccer team, they provide opportunities for young people to build confidence, develop social skills, and learn important life lessons. Their work demonstrates that with access to sports, education, and economic opportunities, every young person can aspire to succeed, regardless of their background or circumstances.
