Empowering Visually Impaired Soccer Players.
In a heartwarming collaboration, Corinthians and SAFA (South African Football Association) have come together to uplift visually impaired soccer players. The initiative involves providing these remarkable individuals with a Blind Soccer Coaching Course, aimed at equipping them with valuable skills and knowledge.
The journey began in August 2023 when our visually impaired soccer players commenced their coaching sessions. It was a challenging endeavor, given the varying age groups, grades, abilities (B1 and B2), and concentration spans within the group. Nonetheless, the journey was rewarding, with some participants facing difficulties concentrating, even leaving the class within the first five minutes. To accommodate their busy schedules, coaching sessions are exclusively held on Mondays, allowing them to engage in other activities such as blind cricket and drama. The program began with five players, but over time, it expanded to include eight dedicated individuals. Notably, all eight players from our team are actively pursuing their coaching licenses.
The coaching license program serves a dual purpose. Firstly, it provides our visually impaired players with the skills and knowledge required to become coaches themselves. Secondly, it enables them to mentor and guide other visually impaired individuals, sharing their passion and expertise. Each player in our visually impaired soccer team has a unique story. They were once fully abled individuals who, due to unforeseen circumstances, experienced visual impairments. While transitioning to this new phase of life presented numerous challenges, they persevered. They continued their education, actively engaged in various programs, and became inspiring examples of differently-abled individuals who refuse to be defined by their circumstances.
The journey will culminate at the end of September when the players complete their coaching course. Initially, a grand ceremony was planned to celebrate their accomplishments. The event was set to include their families and friends, certificate presentations, trophy awards, tracksuits, and other tokens of appreciation. However, due to financial constraints, only certificates will be presented.
Their journey is a testament to the power of determination and resilience. We look forward to celebrating their achievements and continuing to support their growth in the future.
