International Visitor
Between late August up until mid-September, we had the privilege of hosting Finian Reid, a student at Cambridge University in England.
Over the course of those three weeks, he observed the procedures at Corinthians, as part of his research for his dissertation which analyses the role that sport has in community and individual development. It was also an opportunity to further understand the work that Corinthians does and what the organisation means for La Rochelle and the surrounding areas.
Throughout the course of his tour in Mzansi, along with partaking in the Afterschool Programme, he got to visit the Johannesburg Museum Africa, was hosted by former Orlando Pirates captain Lucky Lekgwathi at his Grootman restaurant, and was treated to a spectacle of local football at a Kaizer Chiefs match hosted at the iconic FNB stadium.
We perceive Mr. Reid’s visit as an opportunity to spread the much-needed visibility that sports and community development projects are long overdue. Corinthians is an integral part of a resilient machine determined to engineer change on the ground in one of South Africa’s most disadvantaged communities. We are honoured that he chose us for his dissertation, and we hope that his research is another stepping stone towards elevating Corinthians to higher prominence on the global scale.
