Blind football in South Africa needs players, and it needs coaches who know how to train them. This winter, Corinthians Africa helped make that possible.
Two days that made history
Together with CATHSSETA, Corinthians Africa hosted an accredited blind football coaching workshop. The theory session ran on 25 July 2026 and the practical session followed on 1 August 2026. Delegates came from across South Africa.
The Johannesburg Blind Football Association (JBFA) described it as an NQF Level 5 course, and thanked CATHSSETA, Blind SA, Corinthians Africa and AR Consulting for making it happen.
More than the rules of the game
The theory day covered far more than tactics. Delegates worked through project planning, budgeting and the Laws of the Game. Jonas Ndlovu presented on project planning, and Simo Noubissi on resource management and budgeting.
Jonas Ndlovu also made history of his own: the JBFA named him South Africa's first blind facilitator.
The facilitation team was Daddy Mahlomotje, Nikiwe Nyamande, Simo Noubissi, Mlungisi Msibi, Jonas Ndlovu, Ntombi Cresswell and Caleb Nomdoe.
"It is an interactive programme where everyone participates, and even the facilitators learn from the participants," the team told the Southern Courier.
A coaching manual in Braille
Every coach needs a manual. Until now, a visually impaired coach in South Africa could not simply pick one up and read it. The workshop changed that with the 110-page IBSA Blind Football Coaching Manual in Braille, which the JBFA called South Africa's first Braille blind football coaching manual.
"This manual serves as a comprehensive guide for beginners," said Mlungisi "Coach Jack" Msibi, founder of Corinthians Africa.
Why it matters
Our blind football league, run with Blind SA, now has seven teams and more than 90 players. More teams need more trained coaches, and coaching should be open to visually impaired people too. This workshop is a step towards both.
